“Are your feet wet? And can you see the pyramids?”

I think I’m going to pretend that never happened. Along with everything after “The Christmas Invasion.”

Haha I wish I could do that. That was so terrible for me the entire series is tainted for me.

I’m so sorry. I’m going to wait a few days and rewatch season one. I’m hoping this hasn’t poisoned it. But it helps that I no longer think of the Doctor in seasons two, three, and four as the same character I fell in love with in season one. (After that scene on the beach? He doesn’t think of himself as the same character I fell in love with in season one.)

Could maybe have done that - but his words about Rose/Ten re-doing things... just. Cheap. Tainted. And now that's how it all feels to me.

Well, I can’t argue with that. Frankly, I wish RTD had created a new Companion for season two. “The Parting of the Ways” was the end of Rose’s journey from shopgirl to epic hero. (And when he was through with her, RTD wiped her memory. Donna’s not the first.) And “The Christmas Invasion” was the end of the Doctor’s journey from being alone to being part of a family. In “New Earth,” RTD shifted to the Lonely God storyline. Having Rose there just confused things.

I like to pretend that Nine never regenerated.

Seriously, I've been reading the spoilers and reaction posts, and I don't think I'm going to like this at all. D:

I can’t say that I blame you. Christopher Eccleston was fantastic. But I wouldn’t trade the kiss in “The Parting of the Ways” for anything. Plus, “The Christmas Invasion” is when the Doctor finally accepts that he’s a part of Rose’s family, by coming to Christmas dinner. I’m a sucker for a happy ending.

Well, I might leave through The Runaway Bride and parts of seasons 3 & 4 (like Donna), but I am not a happy Whovian right now. In fact, I'm wondering if I'll be back for the specials which gives Moffat-Who very very very little chance (I've added more very's since FotD).

I might talk about this more when I’m not so tired. (It’s after midnight here.) But it seems very clear to me tonight that the story I fell in love with ended in season one—Rose’s half in “The Parting of the Ways,” and the Doctor’s half in “The Christmas Invasion.” Since then, RTD has been telling the story of the Lonely God. (Really, all you need to do is compare “The Parting of the Ways” to “Doomday,” “Last of the Time Lords,” and “Journey’s End.”) I might like isolated episodes (e.g., “Turn Left”). But I haven’t liked the story as a whole since the beginning of season two.

Well, in general (with some obvious exceptions) I liked the story in season 2, which to me seemed about living after all that's happened. The "Ever After" stuff; the point being that they lived, that kind of thing. And then Doomsday was sort of...open ended as it was, with TRB as coda. We could image whatever we wanted at that point.

But it turns out this season wasn't really about what I thought it was, so I sure can't say I've liked the arcs the last couple years (actually, I kind of liked the Doctor's last year as a continuation of season 1&2, but it didn't need to be). This season went out...bad, that's all there is to it.

Let's watch some B5 and try and put this behind us.

That sounds like a plan to me. :-)
